What is a call disposition?

A call disposition is the outcome code recorded at the end of a call, such as "no answer", "left voicemail", "not interested", "qualified" or "meeting booked". Dispositions drive what happens next to the record and feed most outbound reporting.

Dialers use dispositions to decide whether and when to call a number again, and CRMs use them to move leads between stages. They only work if the list is short and the definitions are clear. When reps choose from thirty options under time pressure, codes drift and reports stop meaning anything.

Keep the list small, separate the result of the dial (no answer, busy, voicemail, wrong number) from the result of the conversation (interested, not interested, qualified, booked), and make opt-out requests their own disposition so the number goes straight to your internal Do Not Call list. AI agents set the disposition from the actual transcript, which keeps codes consistent across thousands of calls.
