What is caller ID reputation?

Caller ID reputation is the score that carriers and their call analytics partners assign to a phone number based on how it is used. A low score leads to warning labels such as "Spam Likely" on the recipient's screen, or to the call being blocked.

The inputs are not published, but they include call volume per number, how many calls are very short or unanswered, complaints and spam reports, and whether the calls are authenticated through STIR/SHAKEN. The FCC allows carriers to block calls based on reasonable analytics, so a number with a poor reputation can lose most of its answered calls without the caller noticing anything except a falling connect rate.

Keeping a good reputation comes down to calling people who expect to hear from you, spreading volume across enough registered numbers, registering those numbers with the carrier analytics services, using branded caller ID where you can, and retiring numbers that get flagged. To see how a number is labeled on each carrier, work through our spam label self-check.
