What is a parallel dialer?

A parallel dialer calls several numbers at once for a single rep, often three to ten lines, and connects the rep to the first person who answers. The other calls are dropped, sent to voicemail or left unanswered.

Parallel dialing is popular with SDR teams because it multiplies the conversations a rep can have in an hour. It also inherits the abandoned-call problem of predictive dialing: when two people answer at the same moment, one of them gets no rep. For telemarketing calls the FCC's 3% abandonment limit and two-second connection rule apply, and repeated hang-ups on answer also hurt how carriers score your numbers.

AI agents remove the bottleneck from the other side: instead of one rep and many lines, every answered call gets a conversation. Our post on AI parallel dialers goes deeper.
