01
Autopay failures
When a homeowner switches banks and the monthly draft bounces, the agent calls, explains the missed payment and sends a link to update the payment method.
02
Past-due reminders
Accounts a few days late get a polite call on your schedule, with the amount due stated after verification and a secure link to pay.
03
Promise to pay
A homeowner who can't pay today picks a date. The promise is written to the account and honored, so nobody calls the next morning asking again.
04
Production disputes
If the homeowner says the system isn't producing, the agent doesn't argue. It logs the complaint, routes it to service and pauses outreach per your rules.

Where solar lease, PPA and loan payments go past due
Solar financing runs on a monthly payment that lasts for years: a lease, a power purchase agreement or a loan, collected by the financing provider or by an installer that carries its own paper. Most of those payments are drafted automatically, which works until a homeowner changes banks, closes a card or forgets to update a routing number. The draft fails, a late fee follows, and the homeowner may not notice until a letter arrives. Billing teams then spend their days on reminder calls that each take a few minutes and come back every month.
Some past-due accounts are not about money at all. A homeowner who believes the panels are underperforming, or whose system sat offline after an inverter fault, may stop paying in protest. If a collector argues production numbers on that call, the relationship sours and the account goes nowhere. Those calls belong with service, and the billing team needs to know which accounts are disputes and which are simply a missed draft.
How Harmony.ai works a solar billing queue
Accounts come in from your billing or servicing system by delinquency bucket, with failed autopay drafts flagged on their own. Harmony.ai calls inside the contact windows and cadence caps your compliance team sets, and follows your right-party verification steps before it says a word about a balance. If you are a third-party agency, the required debt collector disclosures run word for word in a fixed part of the script. Only then does the agent state the amount due and ask how the homeowner would like to handle it.
A homeowner who can pay gets a secure payment link while still connected, and the agent confirms once the payment goes through. Someone who switched banks can update the payment method through that same link. If today isn't possible, the homeowner picks a payment date and the agent writes that promise to the account. A complaint about production, roof damage or a billing error is captured word for word and sent to service or a human collector, and outreach on that account pauses under your rules.
Payments, promises and disputes written back to the account
Each call writes back to your collection system, billing platform or CRM through its API, so the account history stays current without anyone retyping notes. Fields include right-party contact status, amount due, payment made through the link and its confirmation, payment method update requested, promise-to-pay date and amount, dispute or service reason, hardship notes, next contact date, and the recording and transcript. Harmony.ai doesn't depend on a fixed connector list: we build the integration to your billing system, payment provider and telephony.
First-party billing, third-party agencies and card data
Which federal collection rules apply depends on who is calling. The FDCPA and Regulation F cover third-party debt collectors, while a lease or PPA provider collecting its own accounts is generally outside them, though state laws such as California's Rosenthal Act can reach first-party creditors. When an agency works the queue, its initial communication with the homeowner, which may be a letter rather than a call, must disclose that it is attempting to collect a debt and that information obtained will be used for that purpose, and later communications must say they come from a debt collector.
A homeowner who gave a cell number to the creditor in connection with the financing agreement has given prior express consent to be called at that number about that debt, under the FCC's 2008 ruling. Card payments taken over the phone fall under PCI DSS, which is why the agent sends a payment link instead of asking for a card number. Those rules come from your compliance team and run the same way on every account, with each call recorded and kept in an audit log. This is not legal advice.

Frequently asked questions
Generally not, because the FDCPA and Regulation F cover third-party collectors, but state laws such as California's Rosenthal Act can apply to first-party creditors. Your compliance team decides which rules the agent runs. Agencies get the debt collector disclosures on every qualifying call.
It does not argue or defend the production numbers. The agent records the complaint in the homeowner's own words, routes it to your service team and pauses collection calls on that account according to your rules. A person follows up with the full transcript in hand.
Yes, through a secure payment link sent while the homeowner is still connected, so card or bank details go into your payment provider's page instead of being read aloud. The agent confirms the payment and writes it to the account. Anything complex goes to a human collector.
Yes. Harmony.ai integrates through APIs with your billing or collection system, CRM, payment provider and telephony, and we build the integration for your setup. Promise dates, payments and call outcomes land on the account automatically, with no manual updates afterward.
